TCI participated in the "Annual Meeting of the Mining Services" organized by the Directorate General of Mineral, Coal and Geothermal (Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources) on 14 to 15 December 2009, at Borobudur Hotel in Jakarta. The two-day workshop and exhibition was attended by mine owners and mining services companies in Indonesia.

The theme of the workshop addressed the issue of supporting growth of local economies surrounding mining areas and featured speakers from the Directorate of Metal Industries, Directorate General of Tax, International Finance Corporation, Chevron and the University of Indonesia. To open the workshop, the representative of the Directorate General of Mineral, Coal and Geothermal, Sukma Saleh Hasibuan, gave a presentation on how companies can obtain mining services license, reporting and evaluation. He also stressed the obligation of developing a program to empower the local community, using local products and local sub-contractors, as well as managing the environment. Meanwhile, the Government expressed its expectation for bigger tax contribution from the mining sector, which was delivered during the Directorate General of Tax's presentation by Dr Sumihar Petrus Tambunan.

The business sector, represented by Chevron, spoke about their local business development program, which is focused on providing work opportunities and business access to local companies and cooperatives in areas where Chevron operates. CSR issues were addressed by International Finance Corporation and the University of Indonesia, both highlighting the mining sector's role in developing communities.

For TCI, participation in this event gave us the ability to display and demonstrate our local programs around our sites, along with educational investments in programs such as the local apprenticeship scheme. It also reconfirmed to the market our ongoing commitment to Indonesia.
