Four Female Apprentices were Graduated
April 17, 2011 For the first time, Thiess Indonesia graduated four female apprentices among 111 graduates of TCI's Apprentice Program Batch 16, consisted of 59 mechanics, 38 electricians and 14 welders. The graduation was held at KNPI Building Balikpapan on 30 September 2010 and attended by Balikpapan government officials, Ministry of Work and Transmigration Official from Jakarta and TCI management. Seskoadi, Manager of Training and Development Centre at Balikpapan, said, "We are very pleased that we booked three records this year; the largest number of graduates, first female graduates and also the largest number of new apprentices". Recently, Thiess Indonesia recruited 131 high schools graduates for Apprentice Batch 20 which 80% of them came from local communities in East and South Kalimantan. "The apprentice program is an implementation of Thiess Indonesia's commitment to education and local communities aroung its project sites", Seskoadi added. Since 1992, Thiess Indonesia has been recruiting a large number of high school graduates to attend the 5 year Apprentice Program. After going through a rigorous selection process, the apprentices will study at both classroom (25%) and various TCI's project sites (75%). In addition to its free of charge, the methods and materials are internationally accredited by Central Queensland Institute of TAFE in Australia. By the end of the program, all of apprentice graduates will be worked at various TCI's project sites across Indonesia. In 2008, this apprentice program received an award from the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration of Indonesia for the 2007 Best Organizing Apprenticeship Program.
