The Thiess Indonesia Senakin Mine Project along with the National Community Empowerment Program (PNPM) Mandiri Kota Baru Pulau Laut District, PT Arutmin Indonesia and the Tebing Tinggi Village Chief, Chief of Police and other local leaders conducted a series of meetings to find ways to help the people of Tebing Tinggi. The meetings resulted in the decision to build a water storage pond to overcome the shortage of water.

PNPM allocated Rp 250 million towards the project and TCI Senakin provided an excavator and an operator to complete the job over 9 days. Works began on 15 October 2009 under the coordination of the TCI Senakin Community Development team. At the end of the project, a water storage pond to the size of 60 meters long, 30 meters wide and 6 meters deep was built to store about 11,000 cubic meters of water for the people of Tebing Tinggi. The pond is expected to hold four months supply of water for about 300 families in the Tebing Tinggi village.

We are grateful to everyone involved in the project for their contribution. The project was successfully selected as the best PNPM Program in the Kotabaru Regency. We truly hope that the water storage pond will provide sufficient water supply for the people of Tebing Tinggi, who really appreciate the project.
