On the 28 October 2009, as part of Thiess Indonesia's ongoing commitment to disaster relief for local communities, the company presented a number of donations to victims of the West Sumatera Earthquake that struck Padang and surrounding regions in September 2009.

Represented by Atep Koswara, in Padang, TCI gave a total of Rp. 170,675,000 collected from the company and employees to Yayan Rukmana a representative of Dompet Dhuafa Singgalang. Dompet Dhuafa will manage the donation to build temporary school buildings for students to continue their education immediately.

The Padang earthquake did major damage to some areas in West Sumatera. Hundreds of deaths and injuries were reported with up to 60% of buildings are damaged.
