Thiess Indonesia' Community Development team worked with the stakeholders surrounding the Senakin Coal Mine to deliver better street lighting in a busy community intersection. Thiess held meetings to discuss the proposal to install lighting on several street corners with State power company PLN, Subdistrict Head, Police Chief, and Village Head together with some community leaders at Geronggang.

The proposal was positively welcomed and on 19 July 2009 the installation was completed. With adequate light at the intersection road safety and public security has been greatly improved. This initiative was part of the healthy living campaign Thiess' Senakin team is running in the local area and is part of the 'Don't use drugs' signage campaign that was installed in this strategic location.
