29 August 2008, Thiess Indonesia was awarded the 2007 Best Apprenticeship Program implementation in Indonesia from the Indonesian Manpower and Transmigration Department. The award was presented during the ''National Apprenticeship Program Workshop'' held in Balikpapan by the Directorate General of Training and Productivity - Indonesia's Manpower Department. Yunan Ginting (Trade Training Superintendent) received the award from one of the Department's directors attending the workshop.

The award is testament to Thiess Indonesia’s commitment to training and developing its people. Currently, there are more than 400 apprentices enrolled in the program. The trades include mechanical, electrical and welding and require a minimum commitment of 4 years. When apprentices graduate, they are qualified to Australian Standards and receive a Queensland TAFE Diploma.
