Thiess Indonesia has been awarded a civil and plant hire contract by PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara at Batu Hijau, Sumbawa. The work is similar in nature to the contract Thiess undertook last year, but on a larger scale.

The scope of work involving the removal of topsoils prior to construction of OB dumps (topsoils to be used later for rehabilitation). Civil works involve major drop structures and culverts to handle stormwater runoff in dump areas. The works require the utilisation of heavy equipment including Liebherr 994 excavators, Cat 785 trucks, D9, D8 & D7 size dozers, articulated dump trucks, 20t, 30t and 50t excavators and support equipment.

The project will start on 01 May 2003 with a duration of approximately 5 months.

This project endorses Thiess proven ability to quickly deploy heavy equipment and mobilise staff personnel to remote sites in Indonesia.

The project again demonstrates the strength of the relationship between Newmont and Thiess which has been built up on the basis of strong performance by Thiess Indonesia over the last 6 years that we have worked on the site.
