The Thiess Summit 3 - Making IT Happen
May 12, 2008 The Thiess Summit 3 was held at the Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta on 22 - 24 February 2006. With the theme "Making It Happen", the summit was attended by more than 100 participants representing all a cross sections of all sites and functional departments. Summit 3 represented a natural progression from Summit 1 "Planning Our Future" when Thiess Indonesia launched it's Vision and Mission statements and Summit 2 "Industry Leadership". In his opening speech, Sam Rumende pointed out the important of making our vision happen. It was also a moment of honour to participants when Martin Albrecht, Chairman of Thiess Board, former Thiess CEO, presenting Sustaining a Competitive Edge in a Global Environment. "Education and Training is one of the key enablers coupled with culture of innovation and knowledge sharing as well as equity", he said in his summary. The summit committee organised a number of different activities for participants, including external and internal Thiess presentations and fun nights. Jeffrey Mulyono, Chairman of Indonesia Mining Associations (IMA) presented the Mining Outlook in Indonesia and Thomas Oentoro from the International Fund Corporations (IFC) presented an entity on World Bank financing in developing countries. Thomas talked about infrastructure project opportunities in Indonesia and what role IFC could provide to support a Company such as Thiess. The internal Thiess presentations comprised topics from Darajat recovery, Component Management, InfoMine and Data Management Group, the new TMS, Business Development and Estimating: a new approach, and the Amankah program. It also included presentations from the Strategic Projects: Partnership (formerly Client Relations), Diversity, People, Continuous Improvement, and the newly formed strategic Project - India. Fun night activities included the Angklung Harmony and the Tower game. It was amazing to see the harmony of Angklung musical instrument played by all the participants harmonising as one team together. More than 6 songs were played successfully by all, representing that a goal can be achieved when we all focus and do it according to the rules. Pak Bruce Munro in his closing speech challenged all participants to come up with what contribution they have already made and will provide to the future success of Thiess.
