Thiess Indonesia Awarded US$250 Million Mine Contract
May 12, 2008 The Samboja Coal Mine Project, located 45 kilometres North of Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, will span five years and includes the provision of overburden removal and mine support services. Works are expected to commence in June 2008. President Director of Thiess Indonesia Roy Olsen said the contract will provide Thiess Indonesia with a strong platform to build a highly successful partnership with IPC. "Current activities and resources in East Kalimantan mean we are well positioned to deliver the requirements of the Samboja Coal Mine. "A key factor in the success of the project will be a strong safety culture and maximising local employment and training, an approach used across all of Thiess Indonesia's operations." Mr Olsen said the project is an ideal fit with the company's ongoing pursuit of additional mine work and recent capital investments. "We already have a major presence in Balikpapan supporting our other Kalimantan mining projects so the proximity of this project makes it a natural fit into our existing operations."
